I hear far too often from people that they are having difficulty grabbing onto the holiday season. Some seem to feel that the Christmas season gets overwhelmed with parties and events which, when added with shopping and family, apparently overwhelm them. Now we all can get ourselves overscheduled once in a while, but I tend to notice these comments coming from the same people each and every year. More interestingly, people with almost empty schedules often say the same thing, so this is not really a schedule/time issue.
I must share that I have many personal challenges to my day-to-day walk with God, but this is definitely not one of them. I cannot possibly ignore or even shade the mighty truth and depth of the gospel of Christ through this birth event anymore than I could ignore the focus of holding my breath underwater. It is simply that real to me. I don’t share this to be prideful or judgmental, but to offer you a challenge!
My challenge is this: read Isaiah 6:1-6 until you “get it.” By that I mean until you see and get a hold of the depth of the gift that is given. Read about the woman at the well until you “get it.” Read about Nicodemus and the lame man at the pool until you “get it.” Get it? When you are totally aware of the depth of this blessed event we honor each December, you will NEVER miss it again. Pray on!
