Well, since Florida is proved to be a landing pad for hurricanes galore this year, I was reflecting on how much faith it takes to survive one. God’s word talks about having the faith of a mustard seed, but what I say I believe and what I act upon can be very different in the midst of any storm, physical or personal. It is always easier for someone else to tell us to have faith when they are watching the storm on the TV than for us who are hiding under our table in the dark! That said, there is a great truth to be noted here. We don’t have to be God, or even to have the faith of Christ. We can trust God to take care of us regardless of how we feel. We can know that His Spirit will give us the strength when we need it the most and like David, we can fell a giant with five smooth stones! The issue is what we do in the off-season. What is our devotional and prayer lives like when we are not being threatened? If we are preparing ourselves daily by walking in love with Jesus, then when the storms of life threaten (whether or not they have names like Francis or Ivan) we are ready and able to trust God either to protect us, or take us home! Pray on!
