Rory Noland and Greg Ferguson Ephesians 3:20
He is able, more than able, to accomplish what concerns me today. He is able, more than able, to handle anything that comes my way. He is able, more than able, to do much more than I could ever dream. He is able, more than able to make me what he wants me to be.
The Story Behind the Song
We’ve all heard the expression “Good things come to those who wait.” This is certainly true when it comes to the song “He Is Able.” “We were on a church retreat,” recalls Rory Noland, “and our pastor was giving us his vision for the coming year. He said the phrase that kept coming to his mind was ‘He is able.’ Later, he pulled me aside and said, ‘It sure would be cool if we had a song that said ‘He is able.’”
Though he tried, Rory just couldn’t come up with anything. He even consulted other songwriters, but to no avail. Finally, a year later, he wrote “He Is Able.” “I needed to live with it for a year,” says Rory. “I needed to go through an entire year where I was faced with adversities and challenges, asking myself ‘Is God able to come through on this? Is He really able to come through on His promises and am I really trusting Him?’”
Rory found the answers in part by meditating on Ephesians 3:20, which says, “God is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond what we ask or think,” and Psalm 138:8: “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me.” Rory says, “He is a God who is willing to meet me, and He is able to go beyond what I could ask or think or dream.”
